Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Advisory Board to the Committee on the Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine State , on January 22, 2018 chaired the panel’s meeting which also composed of Myanmar’s Senior Government Officials at the Foreign Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Lt-Gen Ye Aung, U Kyaw Tint Swe, U Thaung Tun, U Win Khaing, Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and U Kyaw Tin; Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Than Htut, secretary of the committee for implementation of the recommendations on Rakhine State; Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, joint secretary of the committee; Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development (UEHRD) in Rakhine Chief Coordinator Dr. Aung Tun Thet; and members, permanent secretaries, directors general, managing directors and officials of the committee.
Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai stated that the advisory board is composed of both political and economic sectors, whom experiences and advice will be given to the committee, enabling opportunities of cooperation in exchanging knowledge and experiences on events in Rakhine State.
“On 24 January 2018, a group comprising members of the Advisory Board of the Committee for Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine, Secretariat staff, and members of local and foreign media went to inspect reception centers for receiving displaced persons who left the Maungtaw region of Rakhine State. These centers are Taungpyo Lat Wae reception center, Nga Khu Ya reception center and Hla Phoe Khaung transit center. They inspected the readiness of the centers fully manned with all the requisite government service personnel.
An interview was conducted with Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement regarding the arrangements already made by the Union Government for the repatriation process.”

H.E. Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai co-lead a General Election Observation by Carter Center, a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, along with H.E. Ambassador Peter Burleigh, in Nepal between the 5 – 9 December 2017.
During the observation, the observation team called on the Chief of Election Comission and the European Union Observation team to exchange views on the election.
