Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Advisory Board to the Committee on the Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine State , on January 22, 2018 chaired the panel’s meeting which also composed of Myanmar’s Senior Government Officials at the Foreign Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Lt-Gen Ye Aung, U Kyaw Tint Swe, U Thaung Tun, U Win Khaing, Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and U Kyaw Tin; Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Than Htut, secretary of the committee for implementation of the recommendations on Rakhine State; Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, joint secretary of the committee; Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development (UEHRD) in Rakhine Chief Coordinator Dr. Aung Tun Thet; and members, permanent secretaries, directors general, managing directors and officials of the committee.

Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai stated that the advisory board is composed of both political and economic sectors, whom experiences and advice will be given to the committee, enabling opportunities of cooperation in exchanging knowledge and experiences on events in Rakhine State.

“On 24 January 2018, a group comprising members of the Advisory Board of the Committee for Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine, Secretariat staff, and members of local and foreign media went to inspect reception centers for receiving displaced persons who left the Maungtaw region of Rakhine State. These centers are Taungpyo Lat Wae reception center, Nga Khu Ya reception center and Hla Phoe Khaung transit center. They inspected the readiness of the centers fully manned with all the requisite government service personnel.
An interview was conducted with Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement regarding the arrangements already made by the Union Government for the repatriation process.”

WSD Global Human Rights Summit here in Tokyo, Japan

เมื่อวันที่ 11 ธันวาคม 2558 ศาสตราจารย์ ดร. สุรเกียรติ์ เสถียรไทย ประธานคณะมนตรีเพื่อสันติภาพและความปรองดองแห่งเอเชีย (APRC) ได้พบและหารือกับอดีตนายกรัฐมนตรีฟูกูดะของประเทศญี่ปุ่น เพื่อแจ้งเรื่อฃกิจกรรมของ APRC ในช่วงปีที่ผ่านมา และกิจกรรมต่างๆที่ APRC สามารถจะมีส่วนร่วมได้ เพื่อนำพาสันติมาสู้ภูมิภาค

On 11th of December 2015, Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC), meets with H.E. Yasuo Fukuda, former Prime Minister of Japan and Adviser to the APRC Chairman, to discuss the works of APRC during the past year and what APRC can engage to create peace within the region, Tokyo, Japan.

The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) 3rd Annual Meeting was held in Beijing, China on 29 November – 3 December 2015

The council had discussed on activities of APRC in the present year and have seen a progress on three major issues. THe first issue is on disputes in the South China Sea, the Chairman of APRC has met with many state leaders of countries involved and not involved with the dispute and has also been invited to attend the Club de Madrid, which is a club that consists of 111 former leaders around the world. An idea has emerged in making countries pivoting from border disputes to a economic cooperation to build up peace.

The second issue is on the transition of Myanmar. His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, has met with organizations and important individuals in Myanmar to pave ways to provide humanitarian aid to the Muslims and Rohingya.

The third issue is on the insurgency in the southern part of Thailand. The meeting has agreed that the problems are getting better under the current government. The council has also agreed to try to hold a meeting between religious leaders to discuss and create more peace in the region.

Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC), paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Li Yuan Chao , Vice President of the people’s Republic of China to report on the progress of APRC during the past year. Vice President Li Yuan Chao has mentioned that the work of APRC is of important in sustaining peace in the region.
