Following the endorsement made by ASEAN at its Summits in 2004 and 2005, Malaysia has given its commitment to supporting the candidature of Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand for the post of the United Nations Secretary-General.

Malaysia as Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee (ASC) would like to reiterate that support.

Mr. Kofi Annan's term would expire on 31 December 2006 after serving the office for two terms.
